Experience a day trip with the Russian minibus Buchanka to the outskirts of Berlin. Head south to the beautiful Fläming region. Here lies the old garrison town of Jüterbog, once surrounded by Soviet military objects. The region used to be considered the largest Soviet settlement area outside the USSR!
Around Jüterbog there are huge former military training areas. The munitions-polluted areas are developing into wilderness areas, where wolves and elks roam again. You will take a short hike here.
Afterwards you will visit Jüterbog with its medieval town center. You will see a part of town that served military purposes for over 100 years. Thousands of Soviet soldiers were stationed here during the Cold War. Many of the old barracks buildings are listed as historic monuments and have already served as film sets. While some of the buildings have been carefully restored, there are still many modern ruins.
Afterwards, take the Buchanka to an abandoned Soviet airport, which had modern fighter jets and helicopters during the Cold War. Thousands of Soviet soldiers once lived here as well, in a city of their own. After the visit you will be taken back to the meeting point.
