Entouré de collines ondulantes recouvertes de fleurs, Betancuria est de toute beauté. S'il est petit, ce village recèle de nombreuses légendes. Vous entendrez des histoires de héros, de pirates et de pillages au cours d'une visite guidée de la ville, réservée à votre groupe. Vous visiterez le musée de la ville et goûterez au fromage et au rhum locaux. Fran, l'un de nos guides locaux experts, dit : "L'histoire de la Fuerteventura moderne commence à Betancuria. Elle a été fondée en 1404 par l'explorateur français Jean de Béthencourt, après avoir conquis l'île. L'église de Santa Maria a été construite à peine six ans plus tard et est la plus ancienne église des îles Canaries."

Vous serez accueilli par votre guide au point de rencontre et partirez pour votre visite privée de l'ancienne capitale. Une visite du musée archéologique et ethnographique vous fera revivre l'histoire complexe de l'île. Vous continuerez avec une courte promenade à pied dans la campagne pour explorer les ruines désertes du couvent de San Buenaventura, un cadre digne des paysages de western spaghetti, et l'ermitage adjacent de San Diego, tous deux détruits par des pirates en 1593.

Un arrêt est prévu à l'église de Santa Maria, un bel exemple d'architecture coloniale dont l'intérieur présente une collection d'art sacré. Fran explique : "Le retable que vous voyez aujourd'hui dans l'église a été commandé après le raid dévastateur des pirates en 1593. Il est si complexe qu'il a fallu 34 ans pour le terminer". Nous terminerons avec la visite d'un bar typique des Canaries pour déguster un fromage insulaire primé et un rhum local aromatisé au miel.
