Imagine a place where ancient history, dramatic desert landscapes and Hollywood film locations come together. This two-day tour takes you to some of Tunisia's most famous sights, from a Roman amphitheatre and underground cave homes to a vast salt lake and the legendary Star Wars film sets hidden among the Sahara dunes.
Your adventure begins at El Djem Amphitheatre. One of the best-preserved Roman arenas in the world, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was featured in Gladiator and once held crowds of 35,000 spectators for gladiatorial contests. You'll then head to Matmata, where you'll enjoy lunch and visit the underground troglodyte homes carved into the rock. These remarkable dwellings became Luke Skywalker's home in the Star Wars saga. Later, continue to Douz, known as the gateway to the Sahara, where you'll spend the night in this oasis town on the edge of the desert.
After breakfast, you'll cross Chott El Jerid, Tunisia's largest salt lake, where shimmering white salt crystals create a striking landscape and excellent photo opportunities. Then, climb aboard a 4x4 for an off-road journey to Onk Jemal, home to the Star Wars film set city that still stands among the desert dunes. After lunch in Gafsa, you'll travel north to Kairouan for a photo stop overlooking the Great Mosque, where you can admire the distinctive skyline of one of Islam's holiest cities.
