The inside story

Located in the Paseo de Gracia, Barcelona; Casa Batlló is one of the best buildings of the great Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. It is a complete remodeling of a building which previously existed on that site, built in 1875 by the Spanish architect Emilio Sala Cortés.

For this work Gaudí used colors and forms typical of marine life. The famous architect designed this house for Josep Batlló, an aristocrat who lived in the two lower floors with his family, while the upper floors were rented as apartments. Casa Batlló is part of the naturalistic stage of the father of Catalan's Modernism (first decade of the twentieth century), during which the architect perfected his personal style, inspired by the organic forms of nature.
