The inside story
With over four million annual visitors, PortAventura is Spain’s most visited theme park and one of the most famous in Europe. Its themed areas include Mediterránea (a Catalonian seaside town), Far West (a Wild West town), Mexico, China, Polynesia (based on the Mayan civilization), and SésamoAventura (based on the characters of Sesame Street). Ferrari Land is due to open in 2017.
Each themed area has its own attractions, including rides, restaurants and shows, as well as hotels to fit the theme. The Dragon Khan roller coaster in the Chinese area has eight inversions and is one of the world’s tallest vertical loops, while the Shambhala roller coaster is Europe’s fastest 134km/h (83mph) and has the longest drop of 78m (255ft).
