She-Crab Soup, Shrimp and Grits, Benne Wafers, and a Secret Dish that captures three centuries of Southern cooking in a single bite. The Charleston French Quarter is one of America's great culinary neighborhoods, and this tour was built to taste it properly.
The first stop sets the tone: Chicken Bog, a rustic coastal rice dish rooted in the agricultural traditions of the South Carolina plains, rich, warming, and unlike anything found outside the Lowcountry. From there, delicate Benne Wafers tell one of the most important stories in American food, connecting the flavors of the plate to the African heritage that built Lowcountry cuisine from the ground up.
The tour then hits its stride. Cheese and Chive Hot Little Biscuits arrive first, followed by a bowl of rich She-Crab Soup, one of Charleston's most beloved and hard-to-find classics. Then comes Shrimp and Grits, creamy, coastal, and deeply satisfying. All of this unfolds as the route winds past St. Philip's Church, the Dock Street Theatre, the notorious Pirate House, and through the hidden stretch of Philadelphia Alley.
As the afternoon light falls across the Quarter's secret gardens, a Secret Dish is revealed: a tender Southern delicacy that captures the soulful evolution of the city's kitchens.
