The inside story

The Mosque of Cordoba is the most important monument of the city and all Andalusian architecture, along with the Alhambra. Declared to be of Cultural Interest and Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO (in 1994), in 2007 it was included among the twelve Treasures of Spain. It is one of the most beautiful and unique buildings in the world and one of the most visited monuments in Spain. Without a doubt, it represents one of the most important and peculiar monumental groups of the Spanish nation and of the whole West. Since the conquest of the city by Fernando III in 1236, it is the seat of the Bishopric of Cordoba, therefore, it is also the Christian cathedral church of this diocese, and it is forbidden to practice any religious practice other than Catholicism.
