After a pick-up from your hotel, you'll enjoy a drive through the picturesque Valley of Mexico before reaching el Paso de Cortés. This mountain pass between the Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes lies at an altitude of 3400m. Then, you'll reach La Joya - a high mountain hut at an elevation of 3977m that is connected by one of the highest mountain roads of the country. This is a starting point for your 4h hike towards the snow line of the volcano along an intermediate-level trail that both novices and those with more hiking experience will enjoy.
Depending on available time, weather, and your physical condition you'll ascend until 4200-4800m, enjoying great views of snowcapped peaks, glaciers, the Valley of Mexico, and the smoking peak of a nearby Popocatepetl Volcano. You'll have time to take memorable pictures and relax in the tranquility and beauty of this mountainous place.
After the hike, you'll visit the nearby town of Amecameca and explore its unique historic center and try some of its best food specialties, such as rabbit mixiotes (pit-barbecued meat), barbacoa, and pulque. After a joyful tasting of local food and drinks, you'll enjoy a relaxing drive back to Mexico City.
