Discover the hidden, darker side of Paris on a walking tour that delves into the city's concealed histories and legends. Your journey begins at Pont Neuf with the statue of Henri IV, tracing a mysterious path through religious conflict, regal assassinations, medieval beliefs, public retribution, disease, revolution, and occupation.
From the downfall of the Knights Templar to the origins of the Friday 13th superstition, you'll explore how fear of heresy moulded Parisian history. At the former Cemetery of the Innocents, you'll uncover the harsh reality of disease, overcrowded burial sites, the beginnings of the Catacombs, and the later Gothic imagination that positioned Paris as an ideal backdrop for vampire tales. Along your journey, you'll encounter Nicolas Flamel, the true medieval benefactor behind the alchemist legend, and observe how myths evolve from truth.
Venturing onto Île de la Cité, your tour takes a turn towards tales of cannibal bakers, the Paris Morgue, Notre-Dame’s ancient sacred layers, and the memorial to France’s deported victims of World War II. Concluding at the Conciergerie, where Marie-Antoinette awaited her fate, this tour unveils Paris not merely as a city of romance, but as a place where death, faith, violence, and memory have shaped its very streets.
