Discover Loro Parque, an animal embassy with over 50 years of history that has become the “must” of the Canary Islands, with more than 55 million satisfied visitors since its opening. This biodiversity conservation centre, covering over 135,000 square metres, is home to more than 40,000 animals representing over 600 species, in habitats that recreate ecosystems from every continent.
The institution, together with Loro Parque Fundación, boasts the largest genetic reserve of parrots on the planet. Furthermore, Loro Parque acts as its main sponsor, meaning that its visitors make a decisive contribution to the work the NGO carries out worldwide. The Foundation has invested over 30 million dollars in more than 300 conservation projects, through which it has saved 18 species from extinction and reduced the threat level for many others.
At this nature conservation centre, visitors can enjoy displays featuring parrots, sea lions, dolphins and orcas, where the animals act as ambassadors for their counterparts in the wild, raising public awareness of the many threats they face in their natural habitats.
Loro Parque has been named the World’s Best Zoo by different online platforms. Furthermore, it is the first zoo in Europe to hold the ‘Humane Certified’ Animal Welfare Certification from the Global Humane Society, the world’s largest animal welfare certifier.
