What to expect

Are you fascinated by the Vatican's history and all the priceless works of art inside the Vatican Museums? On this detailed Vatican tour, you'll visit the best highlights of the Vatican Museums, as well as its hidden gems. Under the guidance of a professional English-speaking Vatican guide, learn the most interesting and bizarre stories related to the Vatican City State, the popes, the collections housed at the Vatican Museums and the most celebrated artists.

Begin your in-depth Vatican tour visiting the Sistine Chapel before it’s opening to the general public. Admire the breathtaking frescoes by Michelangelo at their best now that the chapel has been restored and every detail and color used is visible. Continue your experience through the Pinacoteca, arranged through a series of rooms, in chronological order and divided by art school. Here, you'll find paintings by the likes of Caravaggio, Raphael, Titian, Leonardo da Vinci, Guido Reni and Giotto.

Explore the Gallery of the Candelabra, the Gallery of Tapestries and the Gallery of Maps, based on painted topographical maps of Italy by Dominican Italian friar Ignazio Danti. The painted frescoes are useful tools that reveal how Renaissance Italians saw themselves and their surroundings while the maps predate a unified Italy by nearly 300 years. Head on to Raphael's Rooms to admire some of the artist's most famous frescoes, including the famous "The School of Athens".

Skip the lines to St. Peter’s Basilica and, through a special door, enter the most opulent church in the world. Once inside, admire celebrated artwork including St. Peter's Baldachin by Bernini and La Pieta by Michelangelo. Lastly, go underneath the church’s floors to visit the tombs of hundreds of Popes, as well as that of the Swedish queen who converted to Roman Catholicism.
