Canyoning
The river-strewn and mountainous landscape of Madeira makes it one of the best spots in Europe for the exciting sport of canyoning. Head deep into the mountains, arriving at the Chão da Lagoa area of Funchal's Ecological Park, situated at 1,500 metres above sea level. Here, you'll don your wetsuit and helmet and receive detailed instruction on all the techniques and equipment required for your 2.5-hour canyon scramble. Your guide will then bring you down a route that reflects your experience. Jump into watery lagoons, rappel rock faces and traverse crevasses – and enjoy the beauty of you natural surrounds.
