A sliver of blond sand fringed by pine trees, Formentor beach is one of the most remote and exclusive strands on Majorca. An excursion to this beach steeped in legend and celebrity is no ordinary day at the beach. With sunlounger, parasol and lunch included, all you need to do is pack your bathing gear. You'll be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the Formentor peninsula, the most northerly tip of Majorca. Its jagged coastline is all sea-plunging cliffs, occasionally punctured by hard-to-reach coves. It has just one sandy beach – Formentor. Your local guide will give you the lowdown on the beach, which, thanks to the luxurious Hotel Formentor, has been a magnet for A-listers since it first opened in the Swinging Twenties of the last century. On top of Christie, the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Charles Chaplin and Winston Churchill came here to relax. The hotel was even a stop on the whirlwind honeymoon of Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly.
Once at the beach, which is 1km long and backed by the fragrant pines, you can top up on your tan on your sunlounger, shaded by a parasol, in an exclusive area. A complimentary glass of white wine helps you get in the mood. And to round off the experience, there's a two-course lunch in a waterfront restaurant.
