This excursion departs from the village of Olden. You will drive through valleys, see lakes and waterfalls, and you will visit the Briksdal Glacier which constitutes an arm of Europe’s largest glacier.
You will start your tour with a drive along the fjord and you will various sites such as ‘the little red church’ from the early 1900’s, which was a gift from an American collector of Norwegian antiques and is nowadays a museum. You will also drive along Lake Olden and all the way to Rustøen at the end of the fjord. Here you will find many waterfalls and many colourful farms as this valley is very fertile.
From Rustøen you will head to Briksdal Inn. This is where the walk to the Briksdal Glacier starts. You will follow a beautiful trail surrounded by waterfalls and mountains which will lead you to the viewpoint at the glacier lake. The walk to the viewpoint normally takes approximately 45-60 minutes. The first part of the track is considered the most difficult. After that, the surface is relatively even and the hike becomes easier. Following the hike you will be driven back to Olden and to the meeting point.
Please note: If you don't want to walk the full distance to the glacier, you can book tickets which include a Troll Car roundtrip. It will bring you about 700m away from the glacier and will take you back once the visit is over.
