Ride your bicycle along the Tonle Sap River, passing the communities of the Cham ethnic-minority group to catch the ferry to Silk Island (Koh Dach). Silk Island offers a respite from bustling Phnom Penh and a great way to learn more about Cambodia’s silk weaving history.
You will arrive at a village of picturesque stilted houses with silk workshops. There you will meet the families who make their livelihoods from the old tradition of hand looming silk. You will learn about this process, starting with the transformation of a wool-like texture into a silk thread. You will even have the opportunity to try weaving by yourself. Silk items can also be purchased directly from each family.
Be sure to visit the local temple before taking the ferry and cycling back to Phnom Penh before noon.
