The Karel Zeman Museum offers an interactive and immersive journey into the visionary world of filmmaker Karel Zeman. It maps his creative output beginning with his earliest animations and puppet films in the 1940s, extending through to the works of his last creative period. A substantial part of the exhibition focuses on his signature films — Journey to the Beginning of Time, The Fabulous World of Jules Verne, and The Fabulous Baron Munchausen.
What sets the museum apart is its playful concept: the rooms are designed as film studios with small sets and backdrops that visitors can walk through and film themselves in action. Visitors may ride the flying machine from The Fabulous Baron Munchausen, walk on the moon, or pilot the submarine from The Fabulous World of Jules Verne. Previously unpublished photographs, original puppets, and other archival materials document Zeman’s life and creative process.
The museum is designed especially for families with children, and it also aims to serve as a long-term institution preserving and promoting Zeman’s legacy through workshops, animation courses, and educational programmes.
