What to expect

More than three thousand pieces, including paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings are part of the Gallery of Modern Art’s permanent collection. It gathers works tracing Roman art from the second half of the nineteenth century until the second postwar period.

The first home of the museum was founded in 1925 at the Palazzo Caffarelli on Capitol Hill. A few years later, after the name changed to Gallery Mussolini (1931), the museum began collecting works of some of the main artists now part of the exhibition: Giorgio de Chirico, Mario Mafai, Scipio, Gino Severini, Giorgio Morandi, Capogrossi, Afro, Alberto Savino, Carlo Carrà, Sironi, Arturo Martini, Marino Marini and Giacomo Manzu.

The Gallery is now hosted by the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites, where you can embark on an exciting path that ranges from the works of Vincent Gemito to those of Hirémy Hirschl, through the works of Cambellotti and Adolfo De Carolis.
