Join this private full day tour from Sarlat and meet your guide, an expert of the Dordogne, who will go over the itinerary and program of the tour with you as you begin to make your way to the Quercy region of France. After an hour's drive you'll arrive in Padirac where you'll get to experience a unique visit of the underground world of the Gouffre de Padirac.
Via a lift you'll make a 75 meter descent to enter the cave, enjoy a peaceful boat ride on the mysterious subterranean river before you disembark to reach the large caves decorated with gigantic limestone concretions. Once you finished exploring the cave, your full day tour continues towards the nearby village of Rocamadour.
Your tour guide will stop at the oratories that tumble along the steep cliff that dominates the Alzou Canyon where you can get a photo stop. Depending on your time of arrival, you will either follow a guided walking tour of the village or enjoy some free time of your own. For lunch, there are many restaurants and snacks to be found in the village.
Follow your guide and stroll through the streets of the medieval village. You will reach the steps that will take you to the Place St Amadour, surrounded by its seven sanctuaries. Once you have reached the sanctuary, visit the renowned Notre Dame Chapel, part of an extraordinary 13th-century chapel complex. Facing Notre Dame chapel, admire the beautiful frescoes that date back to the 12th century.
After you have visited the sanctuary, you will have some free time to visit on your own. If you make your way out of the sanctuary at the same level, you'll reach the castle that is located above the Sanctuary, here you'll have stunning views over the Alzou canyon.
Another option is to make your way down back to the village and take some time to stroll through the main streets and shop for local souvenirs. There are a number of arts and crafts shop to browse through. Afterwards you'll begin to make your way back to Sarlat where the tour ends.
