Discover three hilltop castles along the Bergstrasse, each offering a different perspective on the region's landscapes, vineyards and historic towns. The tour combines short walks, panoramic viewpoints and visits to some of the area's most notable castle ruins.
Your first stop is Strahlenburg Castle above Schriesheim. After a short drive in the van, you'll arrive at the car park below the castle ruins and take a brief walk to the viewing terrace. Here, you'll enjoy a welcome drink, choosing between a regional wine or a non-alcoholic beverage, while taking in views across the vineyards and the Rhine Plain.
You'll then continue north along the Bergstrasse on the way to Heppenheim. At Starkenburg Castle, you'll drive up to the castle hill and walk a few metres into the courtyard of this 11th-century fortress. From here, you can admire views over Heppenheim's old town and the Odenwald hills, with time to capture photos of the scenery.
The final stop is Auerbach Castle in Bensheim, where a level footpath leads to the ruins. The castle features accessible towers, an ancient pine tree on the curtain wall and wide-ranging views of the surrounding landscape. You'll have time for a final stroll along the battlements before ending the experience with a glass of wine.
