The inside story

The Alcázar of Segovia is a stunning fortress declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and found in the city of Segovia, in the region of Castile and Léon, Spain. Rumored to have inspired one of the Disney castles, this elegant palace emerges from the cliffside, looming high over the confluence of the Ciguinuela and the Eresma rivers.

Shaped like the bow of a ship, this impressive structure is one of the most distinctive palaces in Spain. Originally built as a fortress, it has been used more recently as a prison, a royal palace, a Royal Artillery College and a military college, until it was turned into the museum that it is today. Explore its stunning interior rooms, a mix of Gothic, Romanesque and Moorish features. Admire the stunning rooms and their collection of arts, pendant ornaments and delicate intricacies. Climb the staircase of Torre de Juan II and enjoy the views of Segovia and the beautiful Spanish countryside from atop the tower.

The castle is open 10am to 8pm from April 1 to October 31 and 10am to 6pm from November 1 to March 31. The city of Segovia is overflowing with culture and history and is located only just over an hour from Madrid. A visit to this breath-taking castle and medieval city is a popular daytrip to escape the bustling city of Madrid.
