The inside story
Rising above the historic skyline of Segovia, this cathedral is one of Spain’s most impressive Gothic landmarks. Known as the “Lady of Cathedrals” for its elegance and light-filled interior, Segovia Cathedral was built in the 16th century after the original one was destroyed during the Revolt of the Comuneros in 1781. Its 88-metre-tall tower, intricate stonework and commanding position on the city’s main square make it impossible to miss as you wander through Segovia’s old town.
Step inside and you’ll find a huge nave lined with chapels, delicate stained glass and richly decorated altarpieces that reflect centuries of religious art and craftsmanship. You can explore the cathedral museum, wander through its historic chapels, or simply pause to take in the calm atmosphere. If you’re up for the climb, head up the tower where sweeping views open out across Segovia’s rooftops and the surrounding countryside. Rising 88 metres above the old town, it’s one of the tallest church towers in Spain.
