It was all the way back in 79AD when Mt Vesuvius blew its top and covered Pompeii in ash. But the incredible thing is that you can still see remains of temples, villas and streets look more or less as they did 2,000 years ago. You'll have skip-the-line entry to get your tour underway with complete ease, and the use of AR glasses to bring the town's past to life.
After a light lunch, you'll begin your journey up Mt Vesuvius. As for the mighty fire mountain itself, this one's up alongside Krakatoa in the notoriety stakes. And it's the only active volcano on Europe's mainland. As you can imagine, the views from the top are phenomenal.
