The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range bordered by the Rhine valley to the west and south. The highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 meters (4,898 feet). The name Black Forest comes from the general dark color of the numerous pine trees that grow in this region. It is said that it is the Black Forest that inspired the Brother Grimm the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale. There, you will follow the scenic route and stop in a small quaint village that borders one of the most beautiful lakes of the area.
