This half-day experience begins with a boat ride on a traditional wooden dhow from Zanzibar’s north coast towards Tumbatu Island, an area known for its quieter reefs and clear waters.
Once at the reef, you’ll explore shallow coral formations that are close to the surface, making them suitable for both snorkelling and beginner-level diving. The reef is home to a wide range of marine life, including tropical fish, ribbon eels, whip gobies and other reef species that can be easily observed in these calm conditions.
The snorkelling option allows you to float above the coral and take in the underwater scenery at your own pace, while certified Open Water divers can choose one or two dives to explore slightly deeper sections of the reef.
The journey itself is part of the experience, with stunning coastal views along the way and the chance to see a historic lighthouse that has stood for over 100 years, making it a good opportunity for photos.
