‘Ancient Rhodes was a melting pot of arts and culture. I'm proud to show how the present day pays homage to the island's past,' says Dimitris, one of our guides. On this tour, you'll get a taster of Rhodes town's top spots and most Instagrammable locations. In maximum groups of just 16, we'll go yacht-spotting in Mandraki harbour and venture inside the ancient walls of the citadel to discover the medieval Palace of the Grand Master.
For centuries, control of Rhodes has ping-ponged between some of history's greatest civilisations. The result? An easy-on-the-eye fusion of impressive architecture. Dimitris says, ‘Throughout Rhodes' rich and long history, all the conquerors loved it and left behind traces of their passage.' In the company of your expert local guide, you'll kick off your journey through the ages in Mandraki harbour. It was here that the bronze Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonder of the Ancient World, stood guard over the port. Snap a few photos of eye-catchers such as the Nea Agora market, the colourful fishing boats that bob near glistening luxury yachts.
Next, head into the citadel of Rhodes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the pink stone Suleiman Mosque and stroll down its Street of the Knights towards the Palace of the Grand Master, the jewel in the citadel's crown. This 13th-century fortress was built by the Knights Hospitaller. Explore the palace's passageways peppered with pebble mosaics and admire its collection of historical artefacts on display.
