The Lincoln Memorial serves as a testament to the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was assassinated on the 14th of April 1865 near the end of the Civil War. The Lincoln Monument Association was erected to honor the slain president in March of 1867. Abraham Lincoln is known as an icon of national heritage and known for his strong work ethic to lead the nation. Even though he came from humble beginnings as a poor boy from the frontier against all odds, he became President and remains one of the most beloved leaders of the United States of America.
