The inside story
Enter one of the largest museums in Amsterdam. Founded in 1868, the Tropenmuseum is an ethnographic museum, displaying 8 permanent exhibitions and various temporary expositions all year round. Here you can find alluring visual and photographic pieces of art centered around world cultures.
Alongside the Dutch Colonial displays, you can discover virtually any section of human geography present on the planet. From Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa to Latin America and the Caribbean, you can get to know in detail all of these cultural areas leaving you with a truly eye-opening and educational experience. The museum houses 175,000 objects, 155,000 photographs and 10,000 miscellaneous drawings, paintings, and documents.
