Batik is a culturally rich and intricately complex dyeing technique from South East Asia. In this workshop, you will become an artist for a day. Learn the process of designing and making batik and take home your finished product.
This ancient and famous wax-resist method of dyeing textiles uses metal blocks or a small pipe-like utensil to draw or block-stamp designs with hot wax. You will block-stamp or draw designs using melted wax on fabric to create patterns and designs. Then choose one type of product to work on and paint dye colors of your choice on the textiles.
After the dyes dry, the fabric is washed in boiling water to remove the wax and reveal the original fabric color along with the new layer of design.
