Immerse yourself in a neighborhood where U.S. soldiers practiced house fighting, where houses were renovated on their own initiative, and where migrants found a new home. The heart of "36," as the neighborhood is still called after its former zip code, is Oranienstraße with its many legendary clubs and pubs.
The walk, partly along the former course of the Wall, takes you back to the 70s/80s: Georg von Rauch Haus, Bethanien, Mariannenplatz - the protest band "Ton Steine Scherben" sang about this and was itself at the forefront of the squats. A squatter of a special kind was Grandpa Osman - get to know his story as well and experience a lively district that is home to the most diverse people today - between graffiti, Wagenburg and luxury loft.
