The inside story

Located at the top of Corcovado Mountain (710 meters) in Rio de Janeiro, the Christ the Redeemer statue is certainly Brazil’s most famous landmark, situated in the first sector of the Tijuca Forest National Park. It's one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. From here, you can admire incredible views of the entire city. Created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with the French engineer Albert Caquot, the Christ the Redeemer statue was constructed between 1922 and 1931. The statue is 30 meters high, excluding its 8-meter pedestal. The arms stretch 28 meters wide. The Christ the Redeemer represents a symbol of Christianity across the world and an important cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil.
